The fluorescent lights of the night shift at the logistics warehouse always made Marcus’s eyes burn by 2:00 AM. For three years, he’d been moving boxes across concrete floors, earning just enough to get by, but constantly feeling the sting of an income ceiling he couldn't break.

One rainy Tuesday afternoon while sitting in his car near North 45th Street, Marcus scrolled past a headline on his phone: "No degree required. No tuition, ever. Build a career in tech."

He scoffed at first. In his experience, "free" usually meant a hidden catch or a sales pitch. But the words on the screen stayed with him: Built for the person tired of the daily grind. Built for parents starting over. He hit Apply Now.

Three weeks later, Marcus walked into the Code Black Tech training facility at 3223 N 45th Street in North Omaha. Expecting a cold, intimidating lecture hall full of unfamiliar jargon, he was met instead with a 10:1 student-to-teacher ratio, warm smiles, and instructors from his own community who had walked in his very shoes. Founder David Pollock greeted the cohort with a clear message:

"You belong here. We aren't just learning tools; we're building careers and changing lives in Omaha."

Marcus chose The Builder pathway—Software Development & AI. There were no endless PowerPoint lectures; from Day One, he was writing real code, configuring apps, and debugging real-world systems alongside a tight-knit group of parents, veterans, and career-changers. When he struggled with logic flows, mentors sat beside him, coaching him through both technical syntax and executive communication skills.

Four months later, at the cohort showcase, Marcus stood next to his interactive portfolio demo. A local tech manager handed him a business card with a starting salary far beyond what he'd earned hauling crates. Looking across the room at his classmates celebrating their job placements, Marcus realized he hadn't just learned to code—he was one of the 100 people of color reshaping the future of technology in Omaha.

Code Black Tech is a tuition-free technology training program rooted in North Omaha and designed for adults who are ready to pivot into high-demand careers. The program meets people where they are—parents, veterans, warehouse workers, service industry professionals, and anyone tired of watching opportunity pass them by.

With pathways in Software Development & AI, Cybersecurity, Data Analytics, and more, the curriculum is built around real projects, real mentors, and real job placement support. Students don't just leave with a certificate; they leave with a portfolio, a network, and the confidence to compete in the modern tech economy.

Code Black Tech is on a mission to place 100 people of color into technology careers in Omaha. Each graduate represents more than a personal win; they represent a shift in generational wealth, family stability, and community representation in an industry where Black talent has long been underrepresented.

The training center at 3223 N 45th Street is more than a classroom. It is a launchpad for people who were told they needed a four-year degree, perfect timing, or the right connections to make it. At Code Black Tech, the only prerequisite is the willingness to show up and do the work.
