Metropolitan Community College Expands Career Services with AI Tools and High-Growth STEM Pathways for Fall 2026
Metropolitan Community College (MCC) announced the integration of artificial intelligence into its career advising services to assist students with resume optimization, career exploration, and interview prep. Led by MCC Director of Career Experiences Mervin Vasser, the initiative works alongside faculty and local industry partners to connect North Omaha students directly with emerging high-demand fields, including biotechnology and digital tech.

Metro Community College Launches Comprehensive Biotechnology Technician Training Program
Metro Community College (MCC) in Omaha has launched a comprehensive biotechnology technician training program designed to prepare students for entry-level careers in Nebraska’s fast-growing biotech and biomanufacturing. The program will be taught at the Elkhorn Valley Campus. Students will gain hands-on experience in a $3 million state-of-the-art lab modeled on real industry facilities.
Core training includes:
- Industrial safety protocols and OSHA 10 certification
- Aseptic technique and cleanroom operations
- Fermentation processes, bioreactor/fermenter training
- Cell culturing, DNA/RNA/protein work
- Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and cGMP compliance
- Quality assurance/control and data analysis
- Problem-solving and troubleshooting

UNO Opens Application Window for Full-Ride NexGen & S-STEM Scholarships Targeting High-Demand Tech Careers
The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) highlighted its expanded NexGen Scholarship Program and S-STEM grants for Nebraska high school seniors. The NexGen award covers full tuition, housing, meals, and books for four years, while S-STEM grants provide up to $15,000 annually ($60,000 total) for students pursuing degrees in mathematics, computer science, biology, and physics.
